Leadership & About

World-Class Cardiovascular Leadership

Amavita Research is led by globally recognized investigators bringing decades of breakthrough cardiovascular experience to Miami.

About Amavita Research

Amavita Research is the clinical research division of amavita Heart and Vascular Health®, a private cardiology practice in North Miami Beach, FL. Operating as Amavita Research Services LLC, the trial site is structured as an independent investigator-led research operation embedded inside an active cardiology practice. The practicing cardiologists who treat patients in routine clinical care also serve as Principal Investigators on cardiovascular trials, producing continuous patient flow and consistent PI engagement that database-recruited or rotating-PI sites cannot match.

Our mission

Amavita Research's mission is to accelerate the development of new cardiovascular treatments by serving as a high-quality, independent trial site for sponsors who value PI continuity, named accountability, predictable patient flow, and capital efficiency. We focus on cardiovascular indications — hypertension, heart failure, acute coronary syndrome, peripheral artery disease, iron deficiency in heart failure, and related conditions — where our practicing cardiologist PIs have deep subspecialty experience.

Our affiliations

  • Parent organization: amavita Heart and Vascular Health® — a private cardiology practice with active cath-lab access, electrophysiology capability, and a continuously-recruiting patient base. The trial site shares space, staff, and procedural infrastructure with the practice.
  • Affiliated surgical center: Advanced Cardiovascular of Miami — ambulatory surgical center providing extended cath-lab and interventional capacity.
  • Sister organization: bioaccess® — Latin America first-in-human CRO with 50+ delivered FIH programs since 2010 across 10 LATAM markets; together Amavita Research + bioaccess® support sponsors running US + Latin America hybrid trial designs under a single coordinated execution model.

Our certifications and quality framework

  • IAOCR GCSA recertified May 2026 (International Accrediting Organization for Clinical Research) — valid through Feb 2027
  • ICH-GCP E6(R3) compliant
  • SCRS (Society for Clinical Research Sites) member
  • Zero FDA Form 483 findings to date
  • HIPAA-compliant patient data handling

Apogee Award for Excellence in Healthcare

Dr. Pedro Martinez-Clark began his medical career in Colombia before moving to the United States for advanced training. He completed research at Harvard, his medical residency at Case Western Reserve University, and returned to Harvard for specialized training in cardiovascular and interventional cardiology.

He later joined the University of Miami as a professor and physician, working alongside renowned cardiologist Dr. William O'Neill on complex structural-heart cases. Dr. Martinez-Clark has led more than 25 clinical research trials, contributed to the development of the Trans-Caval approach to transcatheter aortic valve replacement, and served as Worldwide Principal Investigator on the Percutaneous Mitral Valve Annuloplasty trial. Marquee studies he has run or is currently running include CYCLE (heart failure), CHAMP-HF Registry, GREAT (Golazo® peripheral atherectomy), Pathfinder I (AURYON), Percutaneous Mitral Valve Annuloplasty, and SPARE-MR.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and recipient of the 2023 Apogee Award for Excellence in Healthcare. In 2017 he founded amavita Heart and Vascular Health®, where he serves as CEO. Today amavita is the largest independent cardiovascular practice in South Florida — independent of any academic medical system — and Amavita Research is its dedicated research arm. The practice works with Jackson Memorial and Mercy Hospitals while remaining independent to keep patients first.

Parent Practice

Amavita Research is the research arm of amavita Heart and Vascular Health®

amavita Heart and Vascular Health® is the largest independent cardiovascular practice in South Florida — the largest cardiology practice in Miami owned by a private physician (Dr. Pedro Martinez-Clark, MD, P.A.), independent of any academic medical system.

That ownership structure is the enrollment moat for our research arm. Our PIs are practicing cardiologists at amavita with active patient panels — they see trial-eligible patients in clinic every day. Sponsors get enrollment from a continuously-recruiting cardiology practice, not a CRO sourcing from referral networks.
